Edwards Moving & Rigging is utilizing a variety of equipment, including a 150-ton capacity low profile hydraulic skidding system from Hydra-Slide, to remove small transformers and replace them with new units over a two-year period at a high security power plant in the south east of the US. The final changeout is scheduled for late 2019.

The crane has got the load as far as it can. The jib may be at the end of its reach, there may be an obstacle to moving the crane body, there may be an overhang, or the destination may be in a confined interior space with little or no headroom, while the load is a large module that needs to be manoeuvred into it. Moving the load that last bit that the crane cannot manage— that, essentially, is bull rigging.

Rapid Response Solutions (RRS) has once again combined haulage, lifting, and hydraulic skidding expertise to unload and install two 50t transformers at Jersey Electricity’s £17m primary substation project at St. Helier West on the Channel Island.
RRS, a Portsmouth, UK-based lifting, transport, and storage specialist, expanded its fleet of Hydra-Slide products to fulfill a scope of work for CTS S.p.A, which was tasked with installation at the disused quarry site at Westmount Gardens.

Houston, Texas-based Fagioli Inc. used its 500-ton capacity Hydra-Slide HT500 heavy track hydraulic skidding system and other rigging equipment to remove a 230,000-lb. pipe bending machine and replace it with a spare system.

Project cargo freight forwarder Martin Bencher USA LLC used an LP400 low profile skidding system from Canadian manufacturer Hydra-Slide Ltd to complete installation of 24 hulking loads at a power plant in Texas recently.
With 12 325 ton engines and the same number of 80 ton generators loaded over a three-week period through two doors at the facility, time and space were key considerations for Martin Bencher, making the LP400 stand out over alternative solutions.

Mountain Heavy Transport, a division of Salt Lake City, Utah-based Mountain Crane Service, has a HT500 hydraulically powered heavy track skidding unit and a smaller XLP150, both from Hydra-Slide Ltd.
Ryan Oliverson, manager, Mountain Heavy Transport, said: “We acquired the XLP150 for skidding small transformers and generators inside a hospital. Height was a concern as was the ability to quickly move and relocate the equipment. The ability to put the kit to work with one person was hugely advantageous in this and subsequent applications.”
